Google is currently testing a new login feature for their Gmail users which now allows you to login to your Gmail account using a QR code rather than typing in your username and password.
The new logging feature is currently being tested by Google to make their Gmail service more secure for users who need to login to their mail account via public or potentially insecure Wi-Fi networks. The use of a QR code is hoped to help keep your login details safe from possible malicious hackers who could use it to access your account using key logging software that will record what you type while on public networks.
Although using QR codes may prevent a malicious program capturing your typed login details and could be handy at times, it still not a foolproof method for keeping your login credentials safe. Even though Google’s QR authentication does use an encrypted channel through HTTPS. But it should help protect you from key logging attacks whilst using public networks. The system
